Reach and Teach at Adimali - 4 weeks

I have been very impressed with the program. It is well organised and is doing what it sets out to - benefiting local communites in India. I was pleased to see how my program fees were being used.

I found the staff extremely helpful at all times - they were always willing to go out of their way to take you somewhere or buy you something. The coordinators were also very helpful - it was good to have so much help and contact before coming here. It was also helpful to have time in Kochi before beginning my placement, this gave me time to acclimatise to India. The advice given to me on dress etc. during the orientation was helpful.

I enjoyed the project, People at the school were very welcoming. I had the impression I would be more of an assistant than a teacher but perhaps this was me misreading the information! As I only taught for two weeks I tried to improve the students' English pronunciation by getting them to speak and read as much as possible. Obviously if I'd have stayed longer I could have done more, volunteers staying longer may be able to plan their teaching better.

On the whole the accomodation arrangements were great - very comfortable, clean and safe. The cooking and food was excellent. I love Indian food, but I never knew there was so much variety! The hygiene standards were also excellent, clean houses, bed linen etc. I had no complaints about the transport either.

I think Navin and Nitin are doing a fantastic job. They clearly care a lot about the projects and the people thay are helping via Yearoutindia. It's great to see this dedication and all their hard work.

This was my first experience of India and I'll certainly be coming back. Yearoutindia enables you to experience India "properly", away from the tourists and big cities. I thought this was a great experience and I'm glad I did this. It was much better than just travelling for the month.
