Reach and Teach at Michael Giri School, Marayoor - 4 weeks

This was the best experience of my life (and I mean that honestly). I did not have any expectations and had a slight idea of what it was going to be like, and my experience completely exceeded my expectations. The program is well organized and each volunteer is given a lot of personal attention.

During the preparations for my trip the email details from Navin were very helpful (I apologize for all the questions I asked during the process). The accommodation arrangements in Marayoor were superb, my room was very comfortable. Everything was kept clean and I always felt safe (even during the loud wind monsoon storms). The host family was wonderful and always made sure I was happy.

Subish was a wonderful host and very supportive - he answered any questions I had and accompanied me to wherever I needed to go. He's also a great tour guide! Subish also was very helpful with some projects at school and at the hostel. He even taught me how to make a few dishes : And of course, Raman was wonderful but I'm glad he is back focusing on his studies now.

The school experience cannot be described in words. I knew the moment I arrived at the school that it would be an amazing one month. The sisters and teachers were all so kind, welcoming and helpful! And of course, the children - they are the most precious, appreciative, adorable kids. My teaching schedule was well planned although looking back, I wish I didn't have any breaks.

I thought it was great that I could create my own lesson plans but it would be helpful to get more teacher feedback on what things they would like the volunteer to focus on. It might be helpful for future volunteers to think of lesson plan ideas beforehand and maybe even bring some workbooks/ideas from their home country.
