We were terrified at first but we both had an amazing
time. The program is great and it was nice to feel we
were making a difference even if it was only small.
All the staff and coordinators were amazing, organising
bus, train and plane tickets for us. Our UK coordinators
were very helpful and gave us a good idea of what life
in Marayoor would be like. The orientation/advice given
to us by Nitin when we arrived in India was relly helpful
- about appropriate behaviour, dress etc. We were also
given some helpful teaching tips.
The accomodation at the placement is great, we have
even come to love bucket baths! The food was also delicious
(especially the beef curry). We loved the jeep rides
to school every morning.
One thing we want to point out is that the house at
Marayoor is not really so isolated as the website makes
out. It may also to be helpful to ask the coordinators
for rough amounts of mone needed for jeeps, photocopying
etc. when you arrive. Also lessons on how to wash your
clothes on a rock!
